For the southern California audience, a new TV show premiers tomorrow on KCOP, channel 13 at 11am, named Luxury Lifestyles, and I’ll be hosting viewers to a visual treat inside my Laguna Beach estate listing, priced at $ 18.8 million. New Series ‘Luxury Lifestyles’ Features Southern California Dream Homes

There are plenty of reality shows concerning real estate these days, and I’ve always steered clear when asked to participate because I’ve never found much ‘reality’ in them. My daily professional routine is more dramatic, more somber and more challenging than any of those shows ever demonstrate. Plus, it’s completely professional and always based on my client’s best interest —not mine.

Now, I’ve been asked to participate in a show that reveals reality—but doesn’t try to dramatize or falsify it. That show is called Luxury Lifestyles, and it premiers March 6th on Channel 13 KCOP in the southern California region. This show is simply a visit to some of our area’s most luxurious and interesting homes. Along the way, you meet professional real estate agents touring the properties and being themselves.

I invite you to tune in. My episode features a listing I represent in Laguna Beach within an elite gated community on a private oceanfront cove. I promise you will enjoy all it offers.

SOLD: Katey Sagal, Kurt Sutter sell Hollywood Hills estate

Actress Katey Sagal and her husband, writer-producer Kurt Sutter, have sold their Hollywood Hills compound for $3.77 million, the Multiple Listing Service shows.

The 1937 traditional-style house sits on more than half an acre with mountain and city light views. There is a library, a great room, a gym, vaulted beamed ceilings and five fireplaces. Within about 7,000 square feet of living space are six bedrooms and eight bathrooms.

The gated compound has a separate office, a guest apartment with a kitchen, an infinity pool, a sports court and mature trees and landscaping.

Although Sagal is often associated with her role as Peggy Bundy on “Married … With Children” (1987-97), she also has been a singer and songwriter for decades doing backup vocals for Bette Midler, Bob Dylan and Tanya Tucker, among others. She has two solo albums. More recent acting roles include the voice of Turanga Leela on “Futurama” (1999-present) and a regular part on “Sons of Anarchy” (2008-10).

Sutter wrote, acted and produced “The Shield” (2004-08) and “Sons of Anarchy,” which he also created.

Property records indicate the house was purchased for $3.71 million in 2005.

The listing agents were Ernie Carswell of Teles Properties, Beverly Hills, and Heidi Lake of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, according to the MLS. Leah Lail of Coldwell Banker’s Beverly Hills East office represented the buyer.

Luxury home prices are still heading down

While Southland housing values overall have rebounded from recent lows, those in the upper end of the market may not yet have hit bottom. Some experts don’t see a turnaround for at least another year.

On its glittering surface, the Southern California luxury housing market still has plenty of pizzazz.

A 48,000-square-foot Versailles-style estate in Bel-Air that sold for $50 million is believed to be the highest-priced sale in the nation this year. Actor Sacha Baron Cohen spent $18.9 million on a Mediterranean villa in the Hollywood Hills, a record for that area.

These trophy deals, however, are masking a larger malaise in the luxury market. Most mansions put up for sale are lingering for months without nibbles from buyers, real estate agents say. And although Southland home prices overall have rebounded from lows hit last year, the luxury market is still trending downward.

Season’s Givings, revisited

A few years back, before our intrepid Kitty Felde relocated herself to DC, we’d profile volunteer opportunities of various kinds that Angelenos could take advantage of.

We all pretended to think of it as a pain in the ass. But our little Grinch hearts grew three sizes each time we talked to people who actually volunteered and gave of their time – even as we struggled to figure out whether doing stories on this stuff is a conflict of interest.

Comes news that seems economically relevant this year. A friend who works for Teles Properties – a real estate company – says the traditional company party is off this year. Instead, Teles realtors are going to do some Heal the Bay volunteering: they’re meeting for a 2 1/2 hour cleanup – Heal the Bay traditionally does a little edjumacation at the beginning of that, about beach trash and urban coastal issues (at least if KPCC’s own sessions are any guide).
